sciences industries ranging from start-ups to
multinational companies. The team has a complementary
combination of scientific and business skills
covering research, development, manufacturing,
cGMP, analytical chemistry, high containment production,
project management, marketing, intellectual property,
technology, product licensing and finance.
Dr Stephen Brown

Dr Stephen Brown obtained a Pharmacy degree from the Queen’s University of Belfast in 1979 and an MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Sunderland in 1986. He joined Sterling Winthrop in 1986 as a Formulation Scientist and over the following years held a number of positions in R&D, Technical Services and commercial manufacturing support in the UK and the US organisation. Following the divestment of Sterling Winthrop by Kodak in 1994 he joined the Sanofi Research organisation as a Research Leader in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department. Dr Brown obtained a PhD on the modification of hydrophobic drug crystals from the University of Sunderland in 1996 under the supervision of Professor Geoff Rowley. In 1996 he joined Chiroscience in the UK as Head of Formulation and was subsequently promoted to Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr Brown continued in this role for the combined organisation following the acquisition of Chiroscience by Celltech in 1999. During the course of his career he has been involved in the development and commercialisation of a number of drug products and drug delivery technologies and has been responsible for a number of successful patent filings. Immediately prior to joining Encap Drug Delivery he was Associate Director of Product Technology Development for UCB Celltech. |
Massoud

After a period within academic research,
Massoud joined the pharmaceutical industry
and became involved in product development,
holding senior positions in a variety of
areas including clinical trials manufacture
(Phase I and II) and Quality Assurance.
He joined Encap in 1997 and was appointed
as Chief Scientific Officer in 2005. Massoud
has over 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical
industry and is author/co-author of over
20 scientific papers and over 10 patents.
Massoud gained his BSc in Chemistry from
Tehran University and holds an MSc in Chemistry
from Salford University. |
Bill
Bowtle
Technical Director |

Bill was a co-founder of Encap Drug Delivery
in 1989. He had previously spent twelve
years as a Development Head within Eli Lilly,
where he was responsible for the development
of ‘vancomycin capsules’, which
have become the industry-yardstick for liquid-fill
two-piece capsules. He is an acknowledged
expert in the technology, with over thirty
publications and invited speaker presentations.
Bill has extensive experience in formulation
and processing of a wide range of liquid-fill
capsule products, including licensed and
investigative medicinal and in nutraceutical
materials. He is a pharmacist and has acted
as Technical Director and ‘Qualified
Person’ since the company’s
establishment. |
David
McNab
Finance Director |

David joined Encap in 2004 and has overall
responsibility for the Finance function,
IT and Health & Safety, he also acts
as Company Secretary. He has over 20 years
financial and business management experience
from a diverse range of businesses including
the Student Loan Company, Sodexho Limited
and Currys plc. David is Chartered Institute
of Management Accountants (CIMA) trained. |
Jim
Savage
Production Director |

Jim joined Encap in May 1998 bringing with
him seven years of cGMP manufacturing and
R&D experience from Johnson & Johnson’s
Medical Biopolymer Group. Prior to this
he spent eight years with R&D at MSA
Catalyst and Safety working on various products
from lithium alloy missile batteries to
KO2 based Respiratory Protective Equipment.
Jim’s duties at Encap include management
of the warehouse and production departments
making him responsible for all customer
materials from receipt to shipment of finished
product – and everything in between.
Jim was promoted to Production Director
and to Encap’s board in 2005. |
