Expanded Formulation and Analytical Development Laboratories open
Tuesday 29th April 2008, 9 AM
On 29th April 2008, just 36 months after moving into new premises in Livingston, Encap Drug Delivery, in partnership with Thermal Transfer, has completed the first phase of its next extension by opening a major new 200 square metre laboratory suite that will be dedicated to Formulation, Production and Analytical Development. The second phase is a further 450 square metre manufacturing facility and is due for completion in July 2008. This new facility will include two separate suites for large-scale pharmaceutical processing. One suite will be dedicated to the manufacture of products requiring special handling (e.g high potency and anti-cancer products).
Completion of both phases will represent a significant new stage in the company’s growth and a ‘first’ in Scottish full-scale manufacturing for such products. The expansion will eventually bring the number of company employees to 50.
Encap was established in Livingston, Scotland in 1989 and has seen a steady growth in its liquid fill encapsulation technology. The company operates to cGMP, and holds MHRA manufacturing licences for both Investigational Medicinal Procedures (IMP’s) and marketed products, and is able to meet the stringent quality requirements set by the world’s most demanding regulatory bodies. The company has a wide range of international Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology clients and currently manufactures EU licensed pharmaceutical products for eight companies.
Liquid-fill based formulation is one of the fastest growing sectors of the drug delivery market, increasing at a rate of 30% per annum. This is due to the number of highly potent chemical and biological-based drugs moving through development pipelines. This investment is part of a £3 M capital outlay by the company to further grow its international presence in drug delivery in an area that primarily focuses on liquid and semi-solid encapsulation using two-piece hard-shell capsules.
Encap Drug Delivery Strengthens Capability in High-Potency and Cytotoxic Encapsulation
Friday 10th August 2007, 9 AM
Encap, the international drug delivery solutions provider, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Thermal Transfer Limited (TTL) to build a £3 million state-of-the-art pharmaceutical development and manufacturing facility in Livingston, Scotland. Construction has already started on the new facility, which will be approved and operational by June 2008.
Under this agreement, TTL will deliver a high-specification, modern facility that will expand Encap’s current R&D and production plant to over 40,000 ft2. The new facility also includes dedicated, high-containment suites that strengthen Encap’s integrated capability in formulation development, clinical and commercial manufacture of high-potency and cytotoxic compounds.
The expansion has been driven by escalating demand from worldwide Customers for the Company’s liquid-fill two-piece capsule technologies, facilities and know-how. Encap’s specialist encapsulation technologies are ideally suited for new product development and life-cycle extension. Liquid-fill encapsulation is one of the fastest growing sectors of the drug delivery market, increasing at a rate of 10-30% per annum. The technology offers many advantages including enhanced bioavailability, rapid formulation development, contained manufacturing and safe handling.
