The growth in anti-cancer and other highly potent products being developed today means that there is an increasing demand for high containment manufacturing services. That's why Encap has just completed a £3 million expansion of our Livingston facility.

High Potency products are classified based on their toxicity, pharmacological potency and occupational exposure limits (OELs) Cytotoxic drugs (such as oncology products), opiates and hormones are typical potent compounds.

Liquid filling into hard capsules is particularly suited to high potency products for a number of reasons:

• Minimised risk of product cross-contamination
• Optimised operator safety through reducing potential exposure
• Ease of handling, transfer and cleaning
• Simplified scale-up processes - Quicker to clinic
• Simplified formulas (generally binary mixes used)
• Low dose accuracy

Encap has just completed a new 15,000 sq.feet extension to our facility. This will include two separate suites for large-scale pharmaceutical processing, one specifically for the manufacture of highly potent products.

Features of the high potency suite:

• Designed and fully qualified to class 100,000 specification
• Design suitable to process materials OEL < 0.1µg m3
• 100% air extraction, 100% air make-up HVAC system
• Secure access for authorised personnel only
• Contained and direct process transfer of API's using barrier technology
